FISHERS INDIANA

Here's what the Chamber of Commerce says about Fishers, Indiana: "A diverse business economy, top-ranked educational institutions, vibrant cultural and recreational opportunities and championship sports teams are just some of the great characteristics of the Fishers area." Written by a true PR professional, eh?

What is Fishers? First, it's a great suburb to Indianapolis. It's also now the fastest-growing area in the state (sorry, Carmel). In 2009, the danged place was named the #8 Best Place to Live in America by Forbes magazine, based on safety, affordability of homes for sale and acess. If you can't believe Forbes Magazine, who can you believe?

Fishers' history began in 1872 when Salathiel Fisher divided his land into town lots. In the beginning, the area was first called Fishers Station and Fishers Switch. Remember - in the late 19th century, small towns and railroads were pretty much like sports bars and TVs. Build one and the other is not far behind. Fishers was no exception to the railroad/town connection, hence the early reference to a train station or switch. Today, that same Fishers Train Station houses the Fishers Chamber of Commerce and the Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Plus, it's a great place to catch the Indiana State Fair's Fair Train.

Located in southeastern Hamilton County, Fishers sits just 15 miles northeast of Indianapolis, making it a very convenient place to live or to even place your business. If traffic isn't against you, you can easily reach downtown Indianapolis in 20-25 minutes. If you're skipping town, the Indianapolis International Airport is within 30-40 minutes. There's a wide variety of home values, from million-dollar Geist-area homes to vey affordable starter homes and newer neighborhoods. A nice suburb at a nice price.

When it’s time to relax, residents and visitors enjoy many entertainment venues nearby, such as taking in the sounds of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra playing outside on the prairie near the picturesque 18th century village of Conner Prairie Living History Museum. Other events include outdoor summer concerts at Town Hall, the Fishers Farmers Market featuring numerous vendors offering produce, flowers, original art and other goodies, the Fishers Freedom Festival.
